The Science of The Gut Microbiota series of workshops are mostly based off of the work of Drs. Justin and Erica Sonnenburg, both of whom run the Sonnenburg research lab at Stanford University where they and their team, study the Gut Microbiota. The workshops will be mostly based off of the Sonnenburg's book The Good Gut: Taking Control of Your Weight, Your Mood, and Your Long-term Health.
In the last 10-15 years the knowledge that is coming out of the research on the impact of the gut bacteria on our physical and mental health is nothing short of astonishing. But at the same time it shouldn't be surprising once you find out how many bacteria cells are actually in the human body. The estimates are in the neighborhood of 100 Trillion. When you exclude red blood cells they outnumber our human cells 10 to 1. That's a lot of cells that are each consuming and producing a lot nutrients and chemicals. All of which researchers are now finding play a major role in our physical and emotional health.
Your genes play a significant role in physical and emotional health. But it turns out that in most cases the types of gut bacteria that you have inside you can play an even larger role. Just one quick example. Scientists can predict with 50% accuracy based on your genes if you are obese or not. But gut bacteria researchers can predict with over 90% accuracy if you are obese just based off of the types of gut bacteria you have in your body.
You can't change your genes yet. You are basically stuck with what you were born with. But you can drastically change your gut bacteria in a short amount of time. And scientists are finding that in many cases your gut bacteria play a significant role in whether or not the positive or negative aspects of your genes are turned on or off.
So basically we live in a symbiotic relationship with gut bacteria. Over the last number of decades this relationship has been drastically altered and the impact is being felt in physical and emotional chronic health problems. When we take good care of our gut bacteria then they in turn can take good care of us. And when we don't......then you end up with the epidemic levels of mental and physical health problems that we are currently facing.
Based on the knowledge the Sonnenburg's were learning about gut bacteria in their lab and the labs of other researchers around the world they started making significant changes to their lifestyles. Which as you gain the knowledge of the research you will also find is really motivating in making changes in your life. You can read all about those changes in their book. But knowing and doing are two different things.
That is where the real power and benefit from attending the Science Of the Gut Bacteria Workshops come into play. Anyone can buy and read the book on their own. But your chances of actually implementing what you learn can significantly improve by tapping into the unique workshop resources like the synergy that comes from the Synergy Accountability Network™, the challenges and solutions brainstorming exercises, the Make It Happen Planning toolbox, the celebrating baby steps and of course the The Extra Motivation Network™. Nothing like the potential for a lot of money being donated to your favorite non-profit to help you meet your goals.
